Amy Poehler Still Wins

For seven years, Leslie Knope was an example of tenacity, heart and hilarity—showing us all that a little elbow grease, a few waffles and a lot of perseverance can make a big impact. Throughout Parks and Recreation’s series run, we watched Amy Poehler’s portrayal of this big-dreaming small-town government worker and marveled at how someone could do so much in a day while staying sane and inspired.

She may not have walked away with an Emmy last weekend, but she is still a force to be reckoned with. She’s a winner in our book. Here’s why.

Keeping it Smart

Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls is exactly the kind of movement that the world needed, created at exactly the right time. In a society where young women struggle with body image, identity and gender roles, Smart Girls aims to help them find and celebrate their authentic selves. As evidenced by their #SmartGirlsAsk Emmy questions, they’re succeeding.

Losing Graciously Hilariously

You can’t win them all. Heck, sometimes you don’t win AT ALL (seven years? Come on, Emmys). But you have a choice on how you react to those less-than-stellar moments. When she learned the final chance to win Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Parks and Recreation slipped away, she didn’t shake her head or cry, she went for a laugh.

Knowing What Matters

It’s not the glitz, the glam, the awards or the accolades—what matters is family, friends and doing great work. It’s easy to recognize people that are doing work that fulfills them because they shine. She shines and then she lights the way for others. She doesn’t need an Emmy to show the world her work matters—it’s obvious that it does.

Leslie Knope may know how to channel her endless enthusiasm and love of service into a lifetime of making a difference, but Amy Poehler knows how to create a universe in which a celebrity’s ego isn’t the biggest thing in the room.
