#EndAbuse: Do Your Part to Break the Cycle

Every six minutes, a woman is battered in the U.S. Last year, 119 women were killed by their male domestic partner. Let that sink in. Your mom, your sister, your friend at work—chances are, domestic violence has affected someone you know. In many cases, you may not ever realize they’re suffering. Abuse is far more than physical, the wounds of emotional trauma can be easy to hide, leaving those suffering feeling ashamed, isolated and trapped.

This abuse has to stop. And for that to happen, we have to shine a light on the dark corners of domestic violence and speak up for victims. When the Houston-based Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA) enlisted a team of 18 Houstonians (led by Esther Freedman of cuteheads) to raise awareness about this issue, our very own Aimee Woodall jumped at the chance to represent those who need a voice.

AVDA has worked for over 30 years to support these women and hold their abusers accountable. Their #EndAbuse campaign, starting May 27th, is a show of solidarity with victims of domestic abuse and a call to end the violence. They’re asking Houstonians to share their own #EndAbuse photos to call attention to this all-too-common occurrence and to promote AVDA’s resources for helping victims.

This is important. This is URGENT. This is your chance to break the silence for those who can’t. We’re in—are you?

Together, we can break the cycle of abuse and bring awareness to an issue that is often found behind closed doors.
