7 Asian + Asian-American Designers You Should Know About

Expand your design horizons this AAPI Heritage Month.

A few months ago I was asked to name 7 influential designers.

  1. Chip Kidd. 2. Paul Rand. 3. Paula Scher.  4. David Carson. 5. Milton Glaser. 6. Stephan Sagmeister. 7. April Greiman

It was an easy question to answer. However, it wasn’t until a few days later when I realized I was disappointed in my response. Don’t get me wrong, those 7 designers were and still are extremely influential and their recognition is deserved. However, it made me realize how limited my knowledge is of the creative industry. Those were all designers I learned about in 2017 from a school textbook, and all the designers I listed were of white ethnicity.

I started this blog series as a commitment to myself to learn about designers from varying backgrounds and to provide a resource to others who are looking to find inspiration outside the eurocentric textbook’s definition on influential designers.

I also would LOVE to hear about designers you wish more people knew about. Fill my inbox up with creatives you are in awe of at cassidy@theblacksheepagency.com.
