Reporting, Made Easy
Our tools and tricks for digital reporting on demand
Q1 is officially behind us, which means we’re in full spring-cleaning mode at Black Sheep. Except our emphasis is on digital clutter, less the physical kind, as we look to parse through our brand and client performance for the first half of the year.
As best practice, we analyze this data on a week over week basis but given the data swings of the last two years, largely due to increased social media use during the early phases of the pandemic, we’re excited to dig in and see how 2022 is stacking up. And far be it from us to gatekeep when it comes to the tools and tricks that help us crunch the numbers faster.
Consider this the official Black Sheep stamp of analytics approval.
1. DashThis
DashThis is our tried-and-true dashboard automation for comprehensive reporting across web, social (paid and organic, mind you!), email and more.
With a robust API integration, inclusive of Google sheets and static .csv files, and easy-to-implement modules, our team has found DashThis not only an effective timesaver but a client-friendly tool that makes data reporting seamless.
Some caveats though: DashThis reports must adhere to a specific timeframe—you don’t have the flexibility to navigate through custom dates, though the platform has alerted users that this is on the product development horizon. And DashThis doesn’t have integrations for all marketing platforms.
2. HubSpot
To say that we love Hubspot would be a disservice to this all-in-one CRM. HubSpot offers reporting for digital marketers working across multiple services within the CRM, inclusive of custom landing pages, complete with forms, email marketing, and easily links with existing platforms like social channels.
With a simple build and real-time updates, it’s a quick snapshot into your holistic marketing ecosystem with a rolling reporting cadence.
If Hubspot is not in your rotation, you may be reliant on another content marketing tool and one that’s always been reliable for the Black Sheep team is Sprout.
Lean but still in-depth with its reporting capabilities, Sprout provides content scheduling as well as profile and post analytics for the top social media platforms—though you won’t find any email marketing or site data here.
While it’s not as comprehensive as some of our other recommendations, it’s great at what it does best: social.
As your team stares down the rest of 2022, we encourage you to adopt the same decluttering (and optimizing) mindset that guides these recommendations. Even the tools can’t replace good old-fashioned digging into the data to parse through what’s working and what could use improvement.
Another benefit of this approach? It allows you to assess how you’re performing against brand goals—or if your brand’s goals need a reevaluation to better align with your audience growth and business objectives. Since digital is always in a state of evolution, it’s best for those pulling the levels behind digital programs to stay equally as nimble.
