#GivingTuesday2020

We were over it. Now it's all we can think about.

Black Sheep has always had a take on Giving Tuesday. As a cause-driven agency, we believe activating communities is a long-term relationship, not one-day-a-year-flood-of-emails-from-every-nonprofit-ever kind of thing.

We wouldn't be doing the good work if we didn't shout about this issue as loudly as possible—both then and now. And in 2020, nonprofits are desperately trying to stay afloat. Two-thirds of nonprofits around the world have lost funding, with large and midsize nonprofits experiencing a 47% decrease in staffing. That's half the employees, doing twice as much work. That's the other half of those employees, looking for work. That's the wider community receiving less and less of the critical services they need to sustain their livelihood and quality of life.

Here are the stats:

Though organizations that directly help with COVID-19 saw an increase in donations early this year, there's clearly much more work to do.

So here's my call-to-action. Small donations can be incredibly powerful (as proven through the grassroots work of civic candidates). If you are in a position to donate even $5, $10 or $15 dollars, today is the day. Pick an org that is doing the critical work and give. The Black Sheep Agency is micro-donating as well—each of our employees will receive $50 to donate to an organization of their choosing—because we're (very fortunately) able to contribute our small part to have a big impact.

Let's do this. Let's all (if you can) take this tiny, yet important step together. #GivingTuesday does not need to be one day of giving in a year of not giving OR a commitment so big that it feels out of reach. It can be something different. A day of positive and powerful change—delivered one donation at a time.
