A Picture Worth a Thousand Inspirations

More and more people put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) each day to share words—words of kindness, anger, fear, expertise, encouragement, humor, sadness, panic—and there’s been a lot of inspiration floating around because of it.

I debated for a long time on what to talk about. Should it be about all the ways folks are sharing their incredibles recipes, recording and uploading on social media for easy access? The people still physically going to work and providing necessities for humans? The innovative ways that businesses who can’t work right now are delivering? Or this agency, the resilient people in it and our work that I’m so, so thankful for?

But it was giving me a bit of anxiety because, as cliche as it sounds, my words (the few that I have right now) wouldn’t do any of it justice. So maybe just for this morning, we pivot from words and focus on photos—photos that capture life still flourishing outdoors, of the world that’s still turning and the phenomenon that is Mother Nature.

There’s certainly no lack of fake news today, so I did my damn best to fact check everything. I wish I had time to find more, alas here are some of the ones I’ve come across most recently.

There will be an estimated 60 million eggs laid by olive ridley sea turtles in India. For one nesting ground in the state of Odisha, it’s the first day-time nesting after 7 years.

Rats are coming out of hiding. “They did not scurry or dart or dash,” writes The Stranger’s Charles Mudede. “They instead pranced about the wood chips like students in a high school musical.”

Some of these things probably have nothing to do with the quarantine we find ourselves in—which is nice to think about since it means humans don’t “ruin” everything. But I hope it brings you some of the joy, calm and hope it brings me. We won’t COMPLETELY be walking into mess when we get out of this.

If you’ve heard of or seen any more unusual bits like these lately, I’d love for you to share it with us and those following along.
